[Well. Things are unraveling, and there's not a lot of time left before things can go from bad to worse. He needs to slow the rot — prevent this from getting too out of hand, and that means at the very least getting the record straight with Aurora before someone else says something.

Note to self: punch Connor, then punch Hank. Right in the nose. He's currently laid up with a swollen knee and goose egg on the side of his head, and Sevika's probing has only made him more sure this needs to happen now.]

[He's going to hate this.]

[His mouth immediately goes dry, as soft brown curls brush across his cheek and an infant's strengthless hand pats his chest. Memories like ghosts. He swallows, physically turning his head away from something that hasn't been there for near decades now.

Focus. You know they dig, you know they pry. Focus.

A long pause, before a word he'd spoken to Furiosa appears to Aurora:]

Don't.

[You've said enough, it means.]

I'm not one of yours.

You became one of mine the moment you stepped foot into Etraya.

[It's a nice-sounding reply. One he wishes he could believe. He and Romano had said as much.

But if she truly knew — she'd want them out, wouldn't she? Want them to stop tainting Etraya's pool. Keep the city safer, because four lives versus all of this? It's hardly worth the hassle.]

Alrys. Solmara.
Do you know them?

I know of Solmara, but I have not gotten any updates from my sibling in that city.

[theroadwarrior]

Might be because your sibling abandoned the job.

Solmara's under control of a resident.
She took power years ago, before I showed up. Name's Alrys.
Don't know the full picture, but whatever she did, the AI shuttered its doors.

The supplies are drying up. Not enough to go around.

This would explain the lack of communication.

We were sent to take from you.
Alrys takes and takes. Forces people to obey or starve.

[There's a reason Max started out a less healthy weight, when he'd arrived. And even still, he's eagerly regaining a pound at a time at the diner. And -- well, a few trash bins, when he's particularly paranoid.]

She wanted to take advantage of your good will toward your residents.

Didn't want to, though.

We don't want to go back.

When I noticed the count of new arrivals was off from what was predicted, I requested updated records for all of those who arrived.

You are recorded as an Etrayan. You do not belong in Solmara anymore.

[theroadwarrior]

[Max is... caught off-guard immediately.]

She can't force us back?

[arora]

No. You are mine.

[theroadwarrior]

Why would you want that?
We were sent to sabotage this place.

[He doesn't believe for a moment she couldn't just. Lob them back into the other city. Correct the course. A little file calling them citizens... that couldn't just tie her hands in the matter.]

[arora]

You were sent here to sabotage Etraya, but you chose not to.
When you felt it necessary, you communicated what happened to me.
You are a good man, Max Rockatansky. I see no reason to remove you from my city.

[theroadwarrior]

Wouldn't go that far.

[A good man? He's puzzled by the very concept.

But the sheer relief that comes from her words works magic all the same.

He has no doubt they would've been punished, if they came back to Alrys empty-handed.]

Wanna knock Connor's head off but
He was programmed to complete the mission. Didn't do it, in the end.

[He's still pissed at him. Really pissed. But the last thing he wants is for Connor to be left out to dry for something he hadn't completely had control over. He just wanted to make sure she knew that.]

We'll come clean.
Tell Etraya who we are. Why we were here.
